If my skirted figures are about stillness, then they are also about movement. In this series, the simple fragmented figure often pushes the boundary of her calm by taking a single step, shifting weight forward as a metaphor for change.
I started the first castings (Skirted Figure and Skirted Figure #2) by hammering the skirt and recently added to this process by engraving over the hammered finish (Miel). This creates a tapestry-like shimmer on the surface that I find intriguing!
